Description

This month we present a selection entirely made up of wines from the Bodegas Luzón, from the DO Jumilla. The selection is an example of how a region traditionally devoted to table wines has managed to make a spectacular turn towards quality taking advantage of the essence of the region, basically, the Mediterranean climate and the personality of the Monastrell and Garnacha varieties. Founded in 1916 by a series of winegrower families, the winery was partially acquired by a business group in 2005 thanks to the interest that the progressive quality of its wines had aroused, in the time guaranteed by the expert hand of Juan Gil, now a well-known winemaker at the same denomination. Over the years, the new management has managed to continue and enhance the line marked by Juan Gil. And the results are noticed. The selection contains two bottles of wines that are the maximum exponent of the winery, specifically one from Alma de Luzón 2013 and another from Altos de Luzón 2015 along with two more integrated wines in which the winery groups under the motto of "The collection". In particular, we present two bottles of Collection Garnacha 2017 and two more of Collection Crianza 2015. Alma de Luzón is the highest step of the cellar. An elegant, fresh and at the same time consistent wine, elaborated mainly with monastrell and complemented with cabernet sauvignon and syrah of selected vines. Fermented at a controlled temperature, the wine has undergone an aging of 22 months in French and American oak and then go to rest in the bottle in the cellar. It is an exuberant wine, rich, full of nuances. Intense and structured must be drunk in a great occasion. Altos de Luzón is a living wine, rich in nuances and is perhaps the most innovative of the winery in the high range. Made with Monastrell, Cabernet and Tempranillo, it undergoes a 12-month aging in French and American oak barrels. Intense on the nose with a predominance of fruit and balsamic aromas, in the mouth it is extremely sweet with very pleasant tannins and freshness. The Garnacha Collection 2017 is a wine made entirely with Garnacha Tintorera from the oldest vineyards of the estate. Fermented at a controlled temperature, it subsequently undergoes aging in oak for eight months in French and American oak. It is an intensely aromatic and easy to drink wine in which, the varietal component, plays a fundamental role. The Crianza 2015 Collection is a wine made with the two basic varieties of the area, Monastrell and Garnacha and aged in French and American oak for 12 months. It is an intense wine, with spicy aromas on a fruit background, complex and balanced on the palate that leaves a long aftertaste consistent with the Mediterranean warm
