This month we present three different wines from three different areas, but with two common features. First and foremost, you can see in these wines the hand of a single family. Second the varieties they are made with. The three wines are made by Orowines an initiative of the Gil family to create wines and wineries in different regions of Spain looking for the potential of the varieties most representative of each region. This project started ten years ago in Jumilla and now they have spread their activity to several Spanish regions: Almansa, Rueda, Castilla y Leon and Calatayud . Today we present the wines that Juan Gil makes in Jumilla, his homeland, those made in Almansa and in Calatayud . The Juan Gil Monastrell has been raised in wood for 12 months and is a pure monastrell. This wine is rich and intense, very well balanced. The second wine, La Atalaya comes from the DO Almansa , near Albacete and has been aged in wood for one year as well, but in this case we have an amazing blending of monastrell and grenache. It is a fleshy wine with good tannic structure well balanced by alcohol content. The third wine is Atteca 2010, from DO Calatayud, a fresh matured grenache that spent ten months in oak wood.
